Artist Statement

My current work explores the physicality of an image and how that translates into a living object. A living object is one that is perpetually rigid with the potential for motion. Through experimentation with materials, I've found that by erasing and moving a drawing across paper or repeating a printed image, time is created. Motion becomes life.

Animals play an important role in much of my imagery. I'm trying to understand how these living things exist as objects. I see many commonalities we share. In a basic sense, we're all made of meat and skin. As a culture we often transpose human qualities onto animals and yet there's violence in our relationship. There are parts that seem more valuable than others.

My aim is for the viewer to participate in a dialogue about these contrary attitudes and investigate their own relationship to the work.
